There was a comment on DOA about Fdoll being a copy/recast of Bambicrony. While it's very obvious they were both modeled after human bodies, that's about as far as the similarities go Here are a few pics (Fdoll/Bambi/YoSD/DZ BB)

Here is what I wrote up on the matter
There was some speculation that Fantasy Doll tiny bodies were a copy and/or recast of Bambicrony bodies. This topic really upset me as I only own one doll, a Fantasy Doll Kemi named Tatum, and I love her very much, I'd be shattered to find out that she was a copy, but I still wanted to know for sure. and a friend of mine owns a Bambicrony, so we decided to do a comparison between the two. We met up at Nekocon to compare the bodies, and a few other friends with bodies of a similar size decided to join in, just for comparison purposes, the other two dolls in the comparison where a Dollzone BB doll, and 2 Yo-SDs. I saw a lot of similarities between all of the dolls. For example, all the dolls has the joints at about the same spots, all the dolls had belly buttons at about the same spot, all the dolls where about the same size, and this is because they are all modeled after humans. Out of the four dolls we compared, I saw the most similarities between the Fantasy Doll and the Bambicrony. The Bambicrony and Fantasy Doll tinies where about the same size, within about 1cm in every size comparison. They (like all the others) had the joints at the same spots, and had a belly button at the same spot. That is about where the similarities end, when you start looking more closely you'll notice many things that are different. The first thing I noticed was the Bambicrony had very defined shoulderblades, the Fdoll does have shoulderblades, but they aren't nearly as prominant as the Bambicronies. The next thing I noticed was the lower backbone, the Fdoll tiny had an obvious indent to form the lower backbone, which started on the lower torso joint right above botton, and ended on the top torso joint, whereas the Bambicrony didn't have a backbone indent at all. Another major thing I noticed is the bottoms, this is where there is a lot of differences, The Bambicrony bottom goes up a lot higher, and is a lot bigger than the Fantasydoll bottom. The Fantasy doll bottom ends about halfway up her lower torso joint, but the Bambicrony's ends a lot higher up. The Bambicrony also has a very prominant dimple above the top of the bottom, and although the Fdoll does have this, it's smaller, and in a generally different shape. The feet are something else I noticed, the toes are different, and the soles of the feet are totally diffrent. The Fdoll has rather defined soles on her feet, but the ball and heel of her feet looks like they were sanded down flat, whereas the soles of the Bambicrony feet are rather flat, but don't look like they were sanded down. The bellybutton on the Bambicrony is higher up than the Fdoll's and I can't really explain how, but the swirls and the such inside of the bellybutton are different. The Bambicrony body also has peices of raised resin to represent slight hipbones where the Fdoll is totally lacking in that department. The Bambicrony also has a more prominant collarbone than the Fdoll. has a A big kicker for me was that the knee joints on an Fdoll are higher up, longer, and thinner than those on a Bambicrony, which are rather flat and slightly rounded. Another big thing is that Bambicrony's are genderless, while the only dolls Fdoll has produced are gendered. The Fdoll also has a locking joint system, which works very well, sometimes a bit too well, and the Bambicrony, although I'm not sure if it has a locking joint system are not, doesn't have locking joints that work this well. I'm sure there are a lot of differences I missed, but those are the most prominant ones to me. There were at least 5 people at the comparison, and not one thought that Bambicrony was a copy. We all agreed that it was obvious that they were both inspired by human bodies, and at a first glance they look similar, but all similar sized bodies are like that. There is only so many differences you can make when making the human body in BJD form before it no longer looks like a human. |

I know this is an old old old thread, but thank you so much for this comparison. I am also on DOA and I find these kinds of accusations angering. After all, there is one huge thing that I don't think that some collectors seem to remember when pointing fingers and calling doll companies out before they have ALL the facts...that fact that these dolls are all modeled after human beings and theyre are going to look extremely similar. I'm not naive, and I know that it is possible to make a cast of a doll part (or an entire doll) for that matter and try and sell it as your own, and that a doll company or two has gotten caught in the act. However, I will defend Fantasy Doll to the end, because of the way Michael is completely honest about his dolls and the artists that work on them (I read the thread on DOA about the accusation that Fantasy Doll made copied hands) and always wants to satisfy the customer with an original doll before anything else!
I have also seen a thread on DOA that claims Nina is a direct copy of some other doll. I have forgotten what the name of this doll is, but I looked at the comparison photos and I LAUGHED. Those dolls didn't look a THING alike. Nina's nose was more prominent and a bit more pointing, while this doll's nose was more plump. Nina's face also has a roundness to it that this doll's face didn't have. And it's THOSE kind of accusations from doll snobs (most of them don't even OWN Nina, they just saw a picture and started pointing fingers) that get me going. They rant and and rave about how the doll is a copy, yet they've never even been in the presence of the two dolls they are accusing to make a true comparison! These people are the ones who turn all the new people in this hobby off to companies like Fantasy Doll, and it makes me mad! I LOVE Fantasy Doll, and I can't wait to get my Nina!
